Men’s Issues
Today’s man faces a dilemma, and it goes something like this: “How can I be sensitive, creative, caring, aware of my feminine side, trustworthy, attentive to my partner’s needs, and all this without being a pushover, without giving myself away?” Conversely: “How can I be driven, competitive, direct, in touch with my anger when I need to be, and ultimately masculine, without fearing that others think I’m a macho jerk?” There is space in between these polarities, and you get to choose where that space is for you.
I help men get real about living according to their own consciously selected standards rather than our society’s over-blown role expectations. Learning to live your own life the way you want to live it, without apology, you begin making healthy choices, and you find yourself approaching your life with more freedom, creativity, and power.
My work includes helping men work through:
- a pervasive and emasculating sense of fear
- feeling like a boy in a man’s body
- creating a boundary and separating from an intrusive mother
- speaking their mind to their over-bearing father, even if he’s gone
- standing up to their partner rather than avoid conflict for fear of losing her
- dealing with their boss or any other authority figure
- the avoidance of responsibilities; procrastination
- getting comfortable with setting boundaries and keeping them in place
- questions about sexuality, what is required as a lover
- feeling entitled to enjoy sex beyond mechanics, or porn standards
- developing a non-negotiable sense of self rather than a self image
- becoming creative, letting go of internal restraints
- letting go of defenses, but staying strong
